Sandakada Pahana, Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka

This example of a Sandakada Pahana (or Moonstone) is from the sacred city of Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka. This is an early example of the type, and is at the bottom of some temple steps.

Many thanks to Ken Creed for sending us these pictures, which were taken by his wife's uncle Terry Ruff during his time with No.357 Squadron, a special operations unit that operated over Burma, Malaya and Sumatra.
