Ruins of Shuri Castle, Okinawa
Here we see two US Marines picking their way through the ruins of Shuri Castle on Okinawa. The castle was the palace of the Ryukyu Kings, but was later used as a Japanese army barracks and then as the Army HQ on Okinawa. It was destroyed during the fighting on Okinawa, but rebuilt during the 1990s.
