Polikarpov I-16 on the ground
Here we see the Polikarpov I-16, the main Soviet fighter in 1940, on the ground. From this angle we can see the retractable undercarriage, with two struts per wheel, and the enclosed cockpit, two features that made it one of the most advanced fighters in the world when it first entered service.
