Plans of King Edward VII Class Battleships
These plans show the King Edward VII class battleships, an early step towards the all-big gun Dreadnought. Previous 'pre-dreadnought' battleships had carried a mix of 12in and 6in guns, with the Duncan class carrying four 12in and twelve 6in guns. The King Edward VII class introduced a third calibre of weapons, and carried four 9.2in guns in single turrets, two on each side. Ten 6in guns were carried in a central battery on the deck below the 12in and 9.2in guns. On the next class, the Lord Nelson class, the 6in guns were removed altogether and replaced with more 9.2in guns.
