Note on a Posthumous Purple Heart

Note on a Posthumous Purple Heart

This letter explaining the rules for the posthumous award of the Purple Heart is something that nobody will have wanted to receive. In this case the letter was sent to the parents of Lt John Dobler, who was lost when he was forced to ditch his B-24H-15 Liberator while returning from a mission to bomb Linz, Austria on 20 January 1945

Many thanks to Julie Harrison, John Dobler's niece, for sending us this photo.
