The original caption records that this shows us 'Darkin and Kibble' standing in front of a Martin Baltimore. To the left we can see the crew access hatch, with simple steps cut into it, while to the right we see the bottom half of the port engine, with the smaller of its two air intakes, and the port wheel.
Many thanks to Michael Hopkins for sending us these pictures, which came from his father's collection, and came towards the end of his RAF service, which lasted from August 1941 to November 1946.
