Lt Sam Magill

Lt Sam Magill
Here we see Lt Sam Magill, commander of the Intelligence and Reconnaissance Platoon of the 329th Infantry Regiment, who played a major role in negotiating the surrender of General Botho Elster and almost 20,000 German troops who had been cut off around Issoudun in central France while attempting to retreat from the south-west of France. Magill was the first American officer to contact General Elster and played a significant role in the initial stages of the surrender negotiations.
