This picture shows Lt Max Plowman of the 10th West Yorkshire Regiment in a trench somewhere on the Somme, 1916. The 10th West Yorkshire Regiment took part in the Battle of Albert (the first part of the wider battle) and the Battle of Delville Wood (15 July-3 September 1916).
