Laura Bromwell with Curtiss JN, c.1919
Here we see Laura Bromwell, probably the first American woman to get a pilot's licence after the First World War, standing in front of a Curtiss JN in 1919. Bromwell learnt to fly with the New York Aerial Police Reserve, and was most famous for setting a world record for looping the loop 199 times in a row. Sadly she died in an air crash in 1921 aged only 24.
