US Landing Craft approaching Cebu, March 1945
Here we see a force of US landing craft approaching Cebu in the Philippines, under cover of the guns of the US 7th Fleet, in late March 1945. The initial landings were largely unopposed, but the Japanese defended Cebu City into April. This picture gives a good idea of the amount of firepower that the US Navy to bring into action during the later years of the Second World War.
