This picture shows a Kampfpistole, a flare gun that saw service with the German army from 1939-45. The Kampfpistole was almost identical to the earlier Leuchtpistole, but had a rifled barrel while the earlier weapon was a smoothbore. The Kampfpistole could be identified by the Z engraved on the side of the barrel.
