Kaibokan Type D from the Right
Here we see a Kaibokan Type D, the sixth class of ocean defence ships to be produced for the IJN, from the right. The Type D was very similar to the Type C, but the funnel was moved forward and made thinner. The Type C used diesel engines, but the Type D had to use turbines due to a shortage of diesels. Sixty-eight Type Ds were completed during the war, of which twenty five were sunk.
