Junkers J 2 fighter from the front

Here we see the Junkers J 2, the first all-metal aircraft designed to be a single-seat fighter. The J 2 was judged to be an aerodynamic success, but its sheet steel construction made it rather too heavy and it's climb rate was poor. Later Junkers metal aircraft used the lighter alloy duralumin where possible, and steel where armour was needed.
