Junkers Ju 90 under attack off Corsica

Here we see a Junkers Ju 90 transport aircraft of Lufttransportstaffel 290 attempting to escape from a Martin Marauder of No.14 Squadron, off Bastia on Corsica. The Marauder was being piloted by Wing Commander W S G Maydwell, the squadron's commanding officer, who was flying a low level reconnaissance mission over the Tyrrhenian Sea from the squadron's base at Protville. The Ju 290 managed to reach the cover of the Corsican coastal defences, but crashed when it reached Bastia. The IWM caption calls this a Ju 290, but the trailing edge of the wings show that it is a Ju 90.
