General Jodl signs the surrender at Rheims
Here we see General Alfred Jodl signing the German surrender at Rheims on 7 May 1945. Despite Eisenghower's best efforts to gain Soviet approval in advance, Stalin insisted on a second surrender in Berlin, but this marked the end of the fighting in the west.
