The Japanese Surrender on Bougainville,
The Japanese surrender ceremony on Bougainville, August 1945. In the centre the Australian commander, Lieutenant General S. G. Savige, signs the surrender document. The two senior Japanese officers on Bougainville sit in front - Lieutenant General Kanda on the right of picture and Vice Admiral Samijima on the left. Their swords can just be seen in front of General Savige.
