Japanese Patrol Vessel sunk at Truk

Here we see a Japanese patrol vessel being sunk by US 5in gun fire during the US naval raid on Truk on 16 February 1944. The Americans had hoped to catch some of the major warships of the Japanese combined fleet, but they had already left Truk. Instead they destroyed around 250 aircraft and about forty smaller warships.
