Italian POWs captured on Cherso

Here we see a group of Italian POWs who were captured during a commando raid on the island of Cherso or Cres, in the north-eastern corner of the Adriatic, in August 1944.

The attack was part of Operation Gradiant I, which was carried out to destroy a swing bridge half way along the island of Losinj, next to Cres, to block a channel being used by German shipping.
