German Infantry Tunnel on the Gothic Line

German Infantry Tunnel on the Gothic Line
Here we see a British soldier examining an infantry tunnel somewhere in the fortifications of the Gothic Line. The Germans put a great deal of effort into this line, but the formal fortifications didn't hold the Allies for long after the start of Operation Olive (25 August-October 1944) - instead the Germans were able to defend the difficult mountain terrain further north, stopping the Allies from reaching the Po Valley until the spring of 1945.
