Homberg and Duisburg in 1945
Here we see the town of Homberg (near bank) and the inland port and industral centre of Duisburg (far bank), seperated by the Rhine. Duisburg was the target of repeated raids by RAF Bomber Command during the war, and some of the damage can be seen here. This picture was taken after the two places were captured by the US 9th Army under General Simpson.
