Here we see the 'E' Class (or River Class) destroyer HMS Waveney, of 1903. The 'E' class were the first British destroyers with raised forecastles, replacing the turtleback of earlier designs. They were more capable of coping with heavy seas than earlier designs, and were the first recognisably modern destroyers.
