HMS Royal Sovereign being handed to Soviets
Here we see the Revenge class battleship HMS Royal Sovereign being handed over the Soviet Union on 30 May 1944. The Royal Sovereign was one of a number of British warships that were loaned to the Soviets in place of Italian ships that had been promised to them, to avoid annoying the co-belligerent Italians. In Soviet service she became the Arkhangelsk. She was returned to Britain in 1949, after the Italian battleship Giulio Cesare had been handed over to the Soviets.
