HMS Ocean leaving Ireland behind, en route to Gib Sunday 16th Dec 1945

This picture shows the Colossus class light fleet carrier HMS Ocean leaving Ireland on her way to Gibraltar on 16 December 1945. The Ocean was completed in August 1945, just too late to see active service during the Second World War. She became part of the post-war navy before finally being broken up in in 1962.

Many thanks to David Horne for sending us these pictures, which came from the collection of his father, Peter Horne, who served with the Fleet Air Arm from 1942 to 1946.
