HMS Lightning c.1900

HMS Lightning c.1900
Here we see the Palmer 27-knot destroyer HMS Lightning, probably in c.1900 when she would have had this combination of the Navy's Victorian livery and the weather cloth seen on the forward gun platform/ bridge. At the time this picture was taken the Royal Navy had a single large destroyer flotilla, so the number of the bow is the Lightning's individual identity number within that flotilla. In 1912 she became an A Class Destroyer.
