HMS Emerald after 1936 refit

HMS Emerald after 1936 refit

This side view shows HMS Emerald, the name ship of the Emerald Class of light cruisers, built for the First World War, but still the fastest cruisers in the Royal Navy in 1939.

This picture was taken after her 1936 refit, in which a new aircraft catapult was installed behind the rear funnel (the horizontal girder like object on this picture) and the mainmast was moved in front of the rear funnel.
