Crew of HMS BYMS 2234, 1944
Here we see the crew of the BYMS class wooden minesweeper HMS BYMS 2234, carrying trophies they have taken from the central fort at Cherbourg after the surrender of the port in 1944. The original caption only gave the name of her commander, Lt. T Spall, DSC, which let to the identity of the ship, which he commanded at the time. These ships were built in the US as the YMS class of minesweeper, with some coming to Britain under lend-lease.
