Major-General E. F. Herring
Major-General E. F. Herring commanded the 6th Division, Australian Imperial Force from 1941-42, before replacing General Rowell on New Guinea. He commanded Advance New Guinea Force during the second half of the battle of the Kokoda Trail, and during the battles of Buna, Gona and Sanananda.
