Grumman XF2F-1 from the left
Here we see the prototype Grumman XF2F-1, a single seat version of the FF-1, in flight. It kept the basic layout of the FF-1, with main wheels that retract into the sides of the fuselage, but with only one crew member was faster than the two-seat FF-1. The F2F-1 entered front line service in 1935 and was withdrawn in 1939 when the Grumman F3F began to enter service.
