US 77th Division on Geruma Shima
Here we see troops from the US 77th Division just above the beach on Geruma Shima, a small island in the centre of the Kerama Islands, an island group 20 miles to the south-west of Okinawa. The islands were invaded before the main attack on Okinawa.
