Douglas C-54 and Spitfire at Mombasa

Here we see a Supermarine Spitfire sitting in front of a much larger Douglas C-54 Skymaster at Mombasa in April 1946. The Spitfire is probably a Spitfire Mk V Trop, which had the chin fairing to carry a tropical air filter, the original Spitfire cockpit canopy, and the three part exhaust stack seen here.

Many thanks to Michael Hopkins for sending us these pictures, which came from his father's collection, and came towards the end of his RAF service, which lasted from August 1941 to November 1946.
