Here we see a Dornier Do 17E from KG.255 in flight. This early version really does show why it was known as the 'flying pencil'. The code 54 means KG 255 as the fourth unit formed within Luftkreiskommando V; E is the aircraft letter, 3 means its from III./KG 255, and 9 means is from 9./KG 255
