Modified Curtiss Model J no.30

Modified Curtiss Model J no.30
Here we see the second Curtiss Model J, army serial number 30, in its second configuration with unequal span two bay wings. The lower wing ends just beyond the outer wing struts, and only the upper wing had ailerons. The first production version of the Curtiss JN, the JN-2, reverted to the original equal span layout, but this wasn't a success, and the JN-3 was built with the unequal span wings, while the surviving JN-2s were also given them.
