Curtiss N-9s on USS North Carolina, 1917
Here we see five Curtiss N-9s on the Tennesse class armoured cruiser USS North Carolina (ACR-12/ CA-12) during that cruiser's period as an experimental aviation ship in 1915-17. On 5 November 1915 Lt. Cmdr. Henry Mustin made the first succesful catapult launch from a ship underway from the North Carolina, in the Curtiss AB-2 flying boat. This particular picture dates to 1917, and the aricraft would appear to be the N-9C, as they lack the tower radiators of the N-9H.
