Prototype Curtiss JN-4D from the rear
Here we see the prototype of the Curtiss JN-4D, the main production version of the aircraft, from the rear. This picture was taken on 24 June 1917, when the aircraft had just been completed. From this angle was can see the lower wing ailerons, which were removed on production aircraft, and the cutouts in the back of the upper and lower wings, which were added to improve visibility.
