Covering the Seine Crossing at Vernon, 25 August 1944
Here we see British troops firing across the Seine on 25 August 1944, to support the first attempts to get across the Seine from Vernon. This initial attempt to cross wasn't a great success, but just enough of a bridgehead was created to allow work on a bridge to begin, and the crossing was secured by the end of 26 August.
