Engraving of General Charles Cornwallis, 1738-1805
This engraving shows General Charles Cornwallis (1738-1805), the defeated British commander at the Battle of Yorktown. Despite this failure his career continued into the French Revolutionary Wars, serving in India and Ireland, and signing the Peace of Amiens. The original painting was by J.S. Copley, RA, and the engraving by S. Freeman.
