Colonel Phil Cochran and Captain John Birkett, Burma, 1944
Here we see Colonel Phil Cochran of the USAAF (left) and Captain John Birkett consulting somewhere in Burma. Cochran was co-commander of the 1st USAAF Air Commando Group, and played a major role in developing the methods of air support that allowed the Chindits to operate deep behind Japanese lines. Captain Birkett is more obscure, but a Captain J. Birkett of the Royal Armoured Corps was mentioned in dispatches for services in Burma in 1945, so this may have been him.
