Boat clearing the Hindenburg Bridge, Rudesheim
Here we see asmall boat being used to attach cables to part of the demolished Hindenburg Bridge at Rudesheim, to prepare for their removal by crane. The bridge was heavily bombed by the Allies, then destroyed by the Germans to delay the American crossing of the Rhine and never rebuilt. The ruins were removed by US engineers in the summer of 1945 to help reopen the Rhine to essential traffic
