Churchill watching Operation Dragoon

Churchill watching Operation Dragoon
Here we see Winston Churchill watching the progress of Operation Dragoon from the bridge of the K class destroyer HMS Kimberley, on 15 August 1944, the day of the initial landings. To his left is Mr R Patterson, US Under-Secretary of War. Just behind them is the ship's captain, Lt Commander J Rylands. The Kimberley was used to transport many of the senior commanders involved in Dragoon, and in the background we have a senior officer in the Royal Navy (centre, looking at the camera) and US Army (to the right of the binoculars). This is probably General Brehon B. Somervell, Commanding General of the Army Service Force, and thus responsible for US army logistics.
