Wreckage in docks at Cherbourg
Here we see some of the wreckage created by German attempts to destroy the port of Cherbourg before the Allies captured the city, washing up against one of the dock walls. It took months to get the port back into full operation, and the Allies decided not to attack some of the Brittany ports, assuming that they too would be too badly damaged to use.
