Here we see one of the most important British generals of the Second World War, Field Marshal Sir Alan Brooke (later Lord Alanbrooke), who served as Chief of the Imperial General Staff from December 1941 to June 1946, and who is widely credited with convincing Churchill to abandon many of his more fanciful ideas.
