British airborne troops in Pont l'Eveque
Here we see a group of British airborne troops in Pont l'Eveque, which was liberated during the advance east out of Normandy after the collapse of the German position and the battle of the Falaise Gap. Pont l'Eveque is only eight miles inland, so was on the left flank of the entire Allied army during the push east. The troops appear to be carrying some sort of dismantled weapon - possibly a mortar, with two on the right carrying the barrels, the second man some of the fittings and the man at the back-left several shells on his back.
