Blackburn Skua from the left
Here we see a Blackburn Skua dive bomber/ fighter in flight over land. The Skua was the first monoplane to enter service with the Fleet Air Arm (in 1938), but it was already an outdated design and an outdated concept, and not only would it be outclassed by German fighters, it was also slower than the bombers it was meant to intercept.
