Here we see a bailey bridge that had been built over the ruins of the Ponte Santa Trinita in Florence. Although the Germans are sometimes given credit for not destroying the nearby Ponte Vecchio, they were perfectly willing to destroy this sixteenth century bridge, and every other historic bridge across the Arno in Florence.
