V-1 'ski site' at Boise Carre, Yvrench
Here we see an aerial photograph of the first of the V-1 'ski sites' to be identified, in the Bois Carre just east of the village of Yvrench. They got their name from the V-1 storage buildings, which had a curved entrance to protect the V-1s from bomb damage. From above these looked like skis on their side, as seen just to the right of the woods here where there are two of them. The launch ramp is in the upper left corner of the site, projecting north-west out of the trees towards London. This site was bombed heavily and never launched a single V-1.
