Spitfire takes off from USS Wasp (CV-7)
Here we see a Spitfire taking off after a 200ft run on the flight deck of USS Wasp (CV-7) in May 42, during the Wasp's second ferry mission to Malta. This was much better planned than the first mission, which saw most of the Spitfires destroyed in a German raid soon after landing. This time the fighters were refueled and handed over to Malta pilots who intercepted the incoming German raid.
