USS Wasp (CV-18) ready to launch
Here we see the Essex class carrier USS Wasp (CV-18) ready to be launched at the Bethlehem yard at Quincy on 17 August 1943. From this angle we get a good view of the way in which the flight deck has been installed above the structure of an otherwise conventional looking ship, with quite a gap between the two structures.
