Damaged galley, USS Wasp (CV-18), March 1945
Here we see the damage caused to the galley on the Essex class carrier USS Wasp (CV-18) by a kamikaze attack on 19 March 1945. The damage was done by a 500lb armour piercing bomb which penetrated the flight deck and armoured hanger deck and exploded in the galley, killing 102 men.
