Collision damage to USS Wasp (CV-18), 1952
Here we see the bow of the Essex class carrier USS Wasp (CV-18) showing the damage caused when she collided with USS Hobson (DMS-26) on 26 April 1952. The Hobson had been built as a Greaves class destroyer (DD-464) and was cut in two in the collision, sinking with the loss of 176 men including her commanding officer.
