Band playing on USS Wallace L Lind (DD-703), 26 March 1945
Here we see the band of the Allen M Sumner class destroyer USS Wallace L Lind (DD-703) playing for the crew during a mail transfer to the carrier USS Essex (CV-9) on 26 March 1945. Two days later the destroyer took part in a bombardment of Minami Daito, to the south-east of Okinawa. The band are standing on the roof of the bridge, with the gunnery director just behind them. Note the captains chair on the open bridge at the far left of the photo.
